Albemarle Road Relief K-8 New School

In fall of 2018 a new school will open to relieve nearby elementary and middle schools. This school will serve elementary and middle school students. The attendance area for the new school will include the portion of the Windsor Park Elementary attendance area south of the Eastland Mall property line and the portion of the Albemarle Road Elementary attendance area north of Albemarle Road and west of Regal Oaks Drive. These students will be assigned to Independence for high school.

The new school will offer a school-wide Spanish dual-language magnet program. Grades K-1 will be available starting in fall of 2018. The program will grow by a grade each year until grades kindergarten through 8th grade are served. This magnet program will serve students living in the new school's attendance area as well as students who win a spot through the lottery.

Transportation and priority in the lottery will be given to students from the Green Transportation Zone. Students in the Green Zone will no longer be eligible to attend Collinswood Language Academy with transportation provided by CMS. Students assigned through the lottery will have guaranteed continuation to the World Languages program at South Mecklenburg High.

Alexander Graham Middle School Sending and Receiving

Changes to the Alexander Graham and Sedgefield Middle attendance areas will be phased in over a two-year period.

Beginning with the 2018-19 School Year, students living in the new attendance area for First Ward Creative Arts Academy will attend Sedgefield Middle instead of Alexander Graham. This area includes students living within the I-277 loop who currently attend Dilworth Elementary or Ashley Park PreK-8.

The remainder of the Sedgefield Middle/Alexander Graham Middle boundary changes will begin with 6th graders during the 19-20 school year.

Transportation and priority for admission will be given to students from the Blue Transportation Zone. This program is already in place at Cotswold.

Billingsville will no longer be adding a STEM magnet program.

Collinswood Language Academy Sending

The new Albemarle Road relief school will be the dual language magnet program for the Green Zone. Starting with the 2018-19 school year, students in the Green Zone will no longer be eligible to enter Collinswood with transportation provided provided by CMS, nor will they receive priority in the lottery.

After the 2017-2018 school year, current Collinswood students residing in the Green Transportation Zone will not be able to pull in younger siblings with transportation provided by CMS provided as outlined in the sibling guarantee. These students may pull in younger siblings, but transportation will not be provided.

Starting with students who will be in 6th grade in 2019-20, the home middle school assignment for students living in the Dilworth and Eastover attendance areas will be Sedgefield Middle instead of Alexander Graham Middle. This will not impact students who enter 6th grade before 2019.

Myers Park High will be the home high school for all students in the Dilworth/Sedgefield attendance area. This is a change for Dilworth students living north of South Boulevard who were previously assigned to West Charlotte High.

Harding University High School will expand its Institute of Technology and will add computer science, coding, and software engineering programs. Harding's county-wide International Baccalaureate program will only be available to students living in the Blue Transportation Zone starting fall of 2018.

During 2018-19 the program will be available to students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade as well as 6th and 7th grade. Both the elementary and middle school programs will add one grade a year until the school serves all children from Kindergarten to 8th grade. This will be a county-wide magnet program with transportation provided provided by CMS for students in all transportation zones.   • The upper northeast portion of the 2017-2018 Renaissance West STEAM Academy attendance area. The home middle school for these students will change from Renaissance West to Wilson Middle. There is no change in the assigned high school. It will remain West Mecklenburg High.

Windsor Park Elementary School Sending

Students living in the portion of the Windsor Park Elementary attendance area south of the Eastland Mall property line will be assigned to the Albemarle Road relief K-8 school. Their middle and high school assignment will change from Eastway and Garinger to Albemarle Road Relief and Independence High.

The new school will offer a school-wide Spanish dual-language magnet program. Grades K-1 will be available in the school choice lottery starting in fall of 2018. The program will grow by a grade each year until grades kindergarten through 8th grade are served. This magnet program will serve students living in the new school's attendance area as well as students who win a spot through the lottery.
